Recognisable by its elegant star shape and deep brown colour, star anise delivers a warm, sweet aroma reminiscent of anise and ouzo, with a gently spicy finish.

Harvested from the Illicium verum tree, native to Vietnam, this spice is treasured in both Mediterranean and Asian cuisines for its exotic fragrance and ability to enhance dishes with depth and warmth. A small amount goes a long way, infusing food slowly and evenly.

How to use
